Getting ready for a Sotogrande summer.
The summer season will soon be upon us and Sotogrande is the perfect place to while away those endless hours of daylight.
There is certainly a wealth of diversions and activities for those seeking a glamorous social life—many revolving around the annual international polo tournament. Apart from attracting top teams and star competitors from around the world, organisers ensure a full schedule of social activities through each day and into the early hours of the morning to keep the thousands of visitors entertained.
Of course, the star attraction is the polo, as the event enjoys the status of a Grand Slam, but there is much more on offer too, with a giant children’s play area, archery, refreshments areas and many daytime activities, followed by social evenings and a lively disco that is the place to see and be seen during a Sotogrande summer.
Gourmet dining on the beach.
For a slower pace of life the glorious sandy beaches beckon, although here too elegance can be found in the surroundings of the Trocadero beach club. It is a gourmet’s paradise, offering a delicious menu in the 250 seater restaurant, while loungers around the pool are the perfect spot to soak up the sun’s rays. An aquatics centre provides the facilities in which to practice a variety of water sports, while the pleasure marina and yachting club are perfect for sailors wanting to spend a day navigating the Mediterranean.
The marina is worth a trip for landlubbers too, with a selection of restaurants and shops to choose from, while it is also the site of the Mercado de Levante. This year’s programme of events has not yet been published, but it usually includes gourmet food trucks, kids’ activities, arts and crafts as well as stalls selling elegant clothes. There is a relaxed and laid back atmosphere here, in keeping with the sophisticated marina. Incidentally, LuxuryForSale.Properties Realty’s Sotogrande office is here too—pop in for a chat if you’re visiting!
We can’t talk about a Sotogrande summer without mentioning the golf courses, with the most famous being Valderrama. While it is a private club, visitors can play and follow in the footsteps of Seve Ballesteros’s victorious 1997 Ryder Cup team, while the nearby racquet clubs and Soto Tennis Academy providing facilities for the more energetic.
Nearby, the gently rolling hills of the surrounding countryside are perfect for summer rambles, while horse riding is on offer at the Santa María Polo Club.
Sotogrande Beaches.
In the San Roque area the awarded beaches are Torreguadiaro (Sotogrande), Cala Sardina and Alcaidesa. For example, just a few steps from the awarded beach between Sotogrande and Torreguadiaro, you’ll find the brand new attractive development of Ribera del Marlin, with a spectacular architectural design, state-of–art-home system, gym, gardens, heated indoor pool, large outdoor pools and splendid views. A varied selection of two bed/two bath to four bed/four bath apartments which include a store room and garage space. Beside the security guards of the port, these apartments will also have their own 24-hour security service. In front of this development is a commercial site where only the most exclusive shops and restaurants will be located. The development includes berths from 10m to 15 m mainly available for the owners of this development.
