Puente Romano History.
The hotel was built in 1976-1977 by the property developer from Sevilla, Tulio Pino who designed the project to look like an Andalusian village, complete with whitewashed houses, tiled roofs, pretty cobbled plazas, and brightly-coloured flowers. As a result of this, the hotel now offers an extensive area of low-rise luxury accommodation, with sub-tropical gardens leading towards the sea.
Until 1978, only 61 properties were sold for private use. The remaining units were acquired for Mouffak Al Midani, a Syrian-Saudi businessman, who formed the foundations of the Hotel Puente Romano. The hotel along with the tennis club (adjacent to the hotel, for many years headed by Bjorn Borg) were opened in 1979.
Later on, in 1995, the hotel was bought by David Shamoon, a well-known London based businessman. To this day, the hotel remains in the hands of his capable children Daniel and Jennica who have implemented vast improvements and refurbishments over the years.
