The growth and prosperity of the Costa del Sol owe a debt of gratitude to Ricardo Soriano Scholtz von Hermensdorff, also known as the Marquis of Ivanrey. Although he had never visited the area, he had heard of its enchanting beauty and purchased an estate near Puerto Banús in the 1940s. He transformed the estate into a resort called Venta y Albergues El Rodeo, where luxury yachts now dock. His nephew Alfonso de Hohenlohe followed suit by acquiring the Santa Margarita Ranch. In 1954, the Marbella Club Hotel was established, welcoming its first guests in the original farmhouse building. Today, holidaymakers, residents, and investors continue to enjoy the legacy of these visionaries.
History.
Soriano’s cousin, Prince Max, had also heard about the joys of Mediterranean living and decided to visit the area himself. He drove down from his palace in his charcoal-burning Rolls Royce Phantom to explore the region. The following year, his son Prince Alfonso returned and purchased the rural 180,000 m² enclaves, Santa Margarita, to use as the family’s Mediterranean hideaway.
With the acquisition of Santa Margarita Ranch, Alfonso de Hohenlohe and his cousin, Count Rudi, they turned the estate into an exclusive destination for the elite. Celebrities like Audrey Hepburn and Brigitte Bardot, European royalty and aristocracy, and other affluent families flocked to the resort. The success of the Hotel prompted other businesses to follow suit and establish their luxury resorts and urbanizations. The Golden Mile, a stretch of opulent establishments, emerged among the many attractions. Marbella cemented its reputation as a premier jet-setter’s paradise.
Prince Alfonso had the vision to transform the Finca into a hotel. After visiting motels in America, the embryo of the Marbella Club was opened in 1954. The hotel’s expansion over the years has welcomed many notable guests, including Audrey Hepburn, Cary Grant, Grace Kelly, and Sir Lawrence Olivier, among others.
Over the years, the luxury Hotel has established a reputation for unparalleled elegance and exceptional service. It’s tranquil and secluded setting, with traditionally-styled buildings, has made it a preferred retreat for many renowned personalities. The hotel’s prime location on the bustling Marbella Golden Mile further enhances its appeal, offering guests the best of both worlds. This coveted location has also made it a favorite among investors.

Style & Character.
The Marbella Club’s origins are steeped in glamour and intrigue. In the 1940s, an aristocrat and playboy named Ricardo Soriano Marques De Ivanrey spoke with a landowner from Andalusia. The landowner regaled Soriano with stories of the alluring Mediterranean lifestyle, and Soriano became captivated by the idea of owning a property in the region. He purchased the Finca El Rodeo near Marbella without even visiting the area.
Marbella Club clients experiences:
Upon arrival, one can’t help but be struck by the impeccably manicured grounds of the property. The lush tropical trees and flourishing Bougainvillea that adorn the white-washed Spanish-style buildings are so perfectly arranged that they appear almost as if made of LEGO bricks. After entering the fabulous chapel-style hall, guests are escorted to the reception for check-in. A friendly concierge takes care of guests’ luggage and whisks them away to their rooms in a golf cart.

Services and Amenities.
I opted for a room-service breakfast on my patio in the morning. Later, I spent my day swimming and walking along the seafront towards Puerto Banus for some shopping. However, I didn’t enjoy the walk towards Marbella to the East as the town center was unattractive and had several low-quality beach cafes that didn’t appeal to me.
During my travels, I have encountered many kids’ clubs, but I must say that the one at the Marbella Club surpasses them all. I rarely give such high praise, but the kids club is genuinely exceptional. The facilities are top-notch, the activities are lovely, and the staff goes above and beyond to provide excellent entertainment for the children under their care.
Once the villa, garage, and courtyard of Prince Alfonso’s residence, the Marbella Club has transformed into a secure and expansive oasis accessed through a grand entrance gate. This secluded club area is a haven for children, with its central courtyard serving as the heart of the space. An open-air shelter with a thatched roof provides a cozy spot filled with bean bags for relaxation and nighttime movie viewing. Open-air benches are available for lunch on one side of the courtyard, while a central bar proudly displays an array of kids’ creations, including art, bath bombs, and candles.
From the central courtyard, several rooms branch off, each offering different areas for play and creation. In one room, imaginative children crafted delightful cat-shaped soaps with beautiful scents. Meanwhile, outdoors, the more energetic kids were engaged in football, tag, and hide-and-seek games. It happened to be Halloween during our stay, and the entire space was transformed into a delightfully spooky wonderland. The kids had decorated every surface with pumpkins and candles, fluffy spiders were nestled in corners, and witches’ hats hung from the roof of the chill-out area.
During the daytime, guests can socialize at the pool deck, serving cocktails from a bar nearby. The beachfront Thalasso Spa, housed in a new facility, offers cutting-edge body treatments. Guests can also access Puente Romano’s tennis and fitness center, while the Marbella Club’s golf course, designed by Dave Thomas, is a short ride away and offers views of Gibraltar and the African coast.
The expansive kids club features a variety of rooms and play areas, including a painting room, a music room equipped for disco parties, a playroom for very young children, another room for movies and games, a library, a grassy field, an all-weather mini football pitch, and a shallow pool area. Each area is adorned with playful decorations and enticing features, creating a fun and imaginative atmosphere throughout the club. Kids aren’t restricted to staying within the club’s boundaries, though. As long as the weather permits, the staff members also organize outdoor activities at the beach, such as kayaking, canoeing, biking, and surfing.
My son thoroughly enjoyed the lively games and even enhanced his goal-scoring abilities thanks to the energetic and imaginative “big guy” named Ryan. Meanwhile, as a girl, I was drawn to the alluring scented soap workshop. The finished products looked incredibly professional, and I was tempted to participate myself!
Rooms.
The rooms are incredibly spacious, with each block has its own garden area and is nestled among the trees for added privacy. The rooms, designed by Jean-Pierre Martel and Kamini Ezralow, boast a chic and contemporary style. Initially booking a deluxe double room, I was thrilled to be upgraded to a spacious Junior suite as a member of Leaders Club Unlimited. The suite featured white walls and high-end oatmeal furnishings, with a comfortable sofa next to the terrace doors offering stunning views of the patio area. From my patio, I could step directly onto the lawn and walk straight to the pool—an ideal location! The rooms are finished to a very high standard, and everything felt brand new. The underfloor heating in the huge marble bathrooms, incredibly comfortable beds, and soundproof walls and ceilings were just a few of the small touches that contributed to an unforgettable night’s sleep.
I had easy access to the upper pool from my room, which had a standard rectangular design and ample comfortable loungers. However, as it was November, the pool was a bit chilly, but I could still enjoy a refreshing swim at the beach club’s outdoor saltwater pool, which was heated. There was even a warm little paddling pool for kids. The beach club had a Hawaiian-style ambiance, with a bar restaurant featuring a massive thatched roof and tables and chairs spread out around the pool patio.
Food & Drink.
At night, the “Champagne Room” bar had a beautiful ambiance with its candlelight setting. The bar’s decor was vivid and artistic, and the roaring fire added to the beautiful atmosphere, especially in November.
The hotel’s upscale dining restaurant, El Grill, is located opposite the hotel’s bar, down a few steps. I had dined here on numerous occasions, including one exceptional evening when my husband and I were the only patrons, which is a rare occurrence as El Grill is typically bustling with diners. Nevertheless, the restaurant maintains an intimate ambiance thanks to its exceptional service and superb cuisine.
The restaurant’s Matradee is a stickler for punctuality, and if he spots you lingering in the bar, he’ll encourage you to take your table promptly. However, he won’t hold it against you if you politely decline. During our last visit, we had the pleasure of dining at El Grill, and both the Matradee and his team of waiters were exceptional hosts.

The present-day real estate market presents an extensive range of options; however, if one desires a luxurious dwelling, it is crucial to acquire specific details about this particular type of residence, which industry experts can only provide.
To classify a property as a luxury home, it is imperative to consider various aspects or features that collectively or individually contribute to its distinction.
Primarily, it is essential to note that luxury homes are not easily found online since many owners prioritize their privacy and entrust the sale to industry experts, specifically real estate agencies dedicated to marketing villas, mansions, and upscale residences.
If you are searching for an upscale residence around the hotel, the exclusive communities of Las Torres de Marbella Club and Puente Romano should be yours first options.
